One little piggy went to... Bleakholt

Date published: 19 November 2013

Staff at Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary have rescued an abandoned piglet after it was found dumped nearby.

Staff are inviting friends and supporters of the sanctuary to choose a name for the baby female piglet. The best six names will be posted on the sanctuary’s website for people to vote on a winner.

The piglet, who has been named Brienne for now, was found cold and nervous near to the sanctuary’s waste skips. Staff were concerned about a lump on the piglet's side and a vet confirmed that the lump was an old abscess which hadn’t been treated properly.

After her traumatic experience, Brienne appears to be perky and resilient and is spending time in her new, dry and warm stable stocked with a large straw bed and plenty of food. A woolly jumper from the dog section has also been given to her to keep her extra warm.

Brienne will eventually be moved in with the other pigs at the sanctuary, Madge and Harold once she is settled and comfortable.

The name the piglet competition will close on Saturday 23 November. Entries must be received by 12pm on that day to be included. Once the chosen six names are online, voting will close on Saturday 30 November at 12pm.

Brienne will be given her new and official name at Bleakholt's open day on Sunday 1 December.

Entries should be sent to Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary via email at nameourpiglet-bleakholt@outlook.com
