Local businessman meets Deputy Prime Minister

Ali Asghar, owner of A&B Carpets in Rochdale met Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg at a special Eid party held at Whitehall last week.

A few hundred people attended the event with Mr Asghar’s invite coming from the Deputy Prime Minister.

Nick Clegg attended the party along with other members of the Liberal Democrat party, Members of Parliament and Lords.

Mr Asghar was amongst a number of Liberal Democrat members to be invited to the party.

Mr Asghar said: “It was quite a nice gathering and a nice party.”

Mr Asghar met with the Deputy Prime Minister to discuss politics and matters affecting local and national politics. Other subjects discussed included Liberal Democrat policies and what the party is doing in government to help the people of Rochdale.

“Each person got a few minutes to speak to the Deputy Prime Minister and I discussed various issues within Rochdale,” added Mr Asghar.

Mr Asghar has been a member of the Liberal Democrat party for over forty years. In 2010 he was honoured with a presidential award for the top Liberal Democrat President.

Mr Asghar has another meeting scheduled with Nick Clegg in April 2014.
