St Andrew's Church raises £1050 for The Christie

Date published: 09 November 2013

Members of St Andrews Church raised £1050 for the Christie by hosting an afternoon tea event. The event, which was held on Saturday 2 November raised money which will go towards the Christie’s mobile chemotherapy unit which is active in Rochdale.

The event, which saw 100 people attend, was described as “absolutely incredible” by organiser Jan Hicks. She said: “We were so pleased with the support. It came down to a lot of teamwork from the church and people involved and overall it was a great event.”

The event also included stalls and live music, played on the piano. Jan added: “The guests enjoyed that. Music to make you feel better.”

St Andrew's was also able to team up with BBC Radio Manchester who have been raising money for the mobile chemotherapy unit throughout 2013.

The unit was officially launched in October 2013 and is a specially built unit that delivers expert treatment in the convenience of patient’s local communities. The unit is located at Tesco Extra in Rochdale and arrives on the same day of the week each week for those who need treatment.

Jan added: “We know people who have had to travel miles for their chemotherapy care so this unit will be such a big help to them.”

The church currently has no plans for anymore fundraising events as they are relocating from their current site under the town centre redevelopment plans. The church will be moving to the old swimming baths location in the town centre.

“We are fundraising all of the time but we have no plans for anything like this again at the minute. We have a lot going on,” added Jan.
