Darryl Conway sentenced for rape

Date published: 08 November 2013

Darryl Conway (born 05/06/1989) from Middleton has been sentenced at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court to eight and half years in prison.

He pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to two counts of rape and child neglect.

He has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life.

Over a period of months from September to December 2012, Conway raped his then 23-year-old wife Chelsea Conway four times at an address in Middleton.

On Sunday 11 November 2012 Conway was looking after a two-year-old boy at an address in Middleton.

When the boy’s mum picked him up she found him in the house alone in his high chair.

Detective Constable Chris Maddocks, from the Serous Sexual Offences Unit, said: “Conway subjected his victim to four rapes over a number of months and his victim has suffered immensely as a result of these attacks. Conway put his own wife that trusted and loved him through something that no person should have to go through.

"But rather than focus on the offender, I would like to praise the victim as she has been incredibly brave for coming forward and seeking justice.

“I would like to think that this case gives confidence to others in the same situation to come forward - we will support you and do everything we can to ensure offenders are brought to justice."
