Suspect charged over memorial graffiti

Date published: 01 November 2013

A man has been charged with scrawling graffiti about fusilier Lee Rigby's murder on the RAF Bomber Command War Memorial in Green Park, London.

Daniel James Smith, of Grecian Street North, Salford, is accused of causing criminal damage to the memorial on 5 June.

The unemployed 21-year-old will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court this morning (Friday 1 November).

The memorial, which was created to remember the thousands of RAF crew who lost their lives in the Second World War, was vandalised twice in just over a week following the murder of Drummer Rigby in Woolwich, south east London, on 22 May.
