Heywood picks up awards at North West In Bloom

Date published: 01 November 2013

Heywood has picked up a number of awards as part of the 2013 North West In Bloom competition. Heywood in Bloom collected five awards as part of the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ category of the competition.

Five different sites entered the competition with each of them winning an award. Mike Goldrick Blinds, Curtains and Soft Furnishing Ltd and The Old Police Station (TOPS) won awards as part of the developing category.

All Souls CE Primary School and Heywood and District Angling society won at Level 4 as part of the thriving category.

Heywood Fire Station completed the awards for Heywood by picking up an outstanding award.

The town also then went on to win a silver gilt medal award for best large town category.

Marian Corns, who collected the awards on behalf of Heywood, said: “We felt great about winning since Heywood's entry is a community effort and is fully funded by the community.

"All parts of the entry take on the extra commitment of bringing their sites up to the required standard quite voluntarily and are a credit to the town.”

It's Your Neighbourhood is the non-competitive part of the In Bloom competition. Entries are visited by environmental and horticultural experts offering entries advice and feedback about how to develop current activities and to promote on going activities.
