Couple threatened with knife at home

Date published: 31 October 2013

A married couple were woken up in the middle of the night and threatened with a knife at their Heywood home.

At about 2.45am on Thursday 31 October 2013, two men kicked open the front door of the house on Hill Street.

The 68-year-old man and his 69-year-old wife were at the house and threatened with a knife when they went to check on the noise.

The offenders then stole a TV, put it in the couple's Vauxhall Corsa (DE56 HLM) and drove off in the car.

One of the men ran away after he was confronted by a neighbour.

Both offenders are white and in their late teens to early 20s. One was dressed in dark clothing and the other was wearing a grey hooded top.

The car still hasn't been found.

Detective Constable Heidi Edge said: "While the couple were not hurt, they have been left badly shaken up.

"This was a terrifying robbery and the offenders need to be caught as soon as possible.

"Anyone witnesses who may have information are asked to call us."

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8701 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111.
