Frankie Barker sentenced to 20 months imprisonment

Date published: 31 October 2013

Frankie Barker (11/01/1995), of Ings Lane, Rochdale, appeared before Minshull Street Crown Court where he was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment following a burglary at Omerods Ltd, Rochdale in August 2013.

Barker stole four barrels of copper powder from Omerods whilst high on cannabis.

When police arrived at the scene they simply followed a trail of the powder which lead right to Barker's front door on Ings Lane.

Barker was covered in the dust when he answered his front door to the officers and the four barrels were later found in his shed.

Other offenders assisted in the burglary but they are yet to be arrested.

Barker earlier admitted to the burglary when he appeared at Bury and Rochdale magistrates’ court. He pleaded guilty to another burglary and theft and asked for 27 other similar offences to be taken into account.

David Morton, defending, told the court: “This is, if not for the criminality involved, utterly laughable that the police were able to follow the metal dust to his house. It was hapless behaviour, with the greatest of respects, showing a lack of maturity and sophistication of this defendant and his peers.”

Barker, who sobbed during his sentencing hearing, was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment in a Young Offenders Institution.
