Music therapy for the Carers Choir

Date published: 31 October 2013

The Carers Choir Group has been enjoying music therapy sessions over the past four weeks.

The choir has been working with the Multicultural Arts and Media Centre (MAMC) to learn singing, Asian music, rhythms and recording techniques.

Brownhill School staff are also attending the sessions and will be recording their songs.

Mohammed Sarwar, Chief Executive, Multicultural Arts and Media Centre, said: "The aim of sessions is to evaluate the effectiveness of music therapy with the groups.

"The participants have done very well to express themselves creatively and to develop their own experiences to improve their mental health and well being.

"It's been great to work with the new group and in partnership with The Adult Care Service. To see people learning and enjoying together proves that art and culture can make tremendous improvement to people’s lives”.

The choir will also be performing at an Interfaith Cultural Conference on 20 Novemeber at MAMC.

The project is supported by Clinical Commissioning Group (HMR) and Link4Life.
