Middleton bonfire and firework display

Date published: 30 October 2013

Bowlee Community Park in Middleton hosted a community bonfire last night (Tuesday 29 October) that attracted hundreds of locals.

The event, which was organised by Rochdale council, saw the huge bonfire lit at 7:00pm with fireworks being set off at 7:30pm. A funfair was also on site for people to enjoy.

Suzanne Bryceland who attended the event agreed that council organised events are a good idea, she said: “They are good because not everyone can have their own bonfire these days. It is also a good event to bring the kids out too and to
meet your friends out and have a nice night.”

Terri Meredith attended the event with her family. Terri said: “We attend every year and always come with the family. They are good events.”

Vincent Mcloghlin attended the event for the first time this year with his family, he said: “We usually miss it because we usually get the date wrong but I made sure to check this year.

"It is a fantastic event and we will make sure to come again.”

Vincent’s children also agreed with his comments shouting, “it’s really good” and “I’m having a great time.”

Mrs Hyland, who lives just around the corner from the bonfire venue, described herself as “a big kid when it comes to things like these,” and added: “We try and come every year. They are good because they are safe for everyone so everyone
can enjoy themselves.”

For the second year running, the Council has banned all unauthorised bonfires on local authority land to 'keep people safe and reduce any likelihood of accidents'.

Rochdale Council bonfires will also take place tonight (Wednesday 30 October) in Rochdale at Cronkeyshaw Common and on Thursday 31 October in Heywood at Cherwell Avenue.

Bonfires will be lit at 7:00pm with firework displays starting at 7:30pm.
