Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival - World of Poetry

As part of the Rochdale Literature & Ideas Festival Multicultural Arts and Media Centre hosted an entertaining World of Poetry event on Saturday the 26 October, hosted at Number One Riverside.

The cultural event, described by one attendee as "thrilling, poignant and moving", included performances from internationally renowned singer Sanyogita Kumari, accompanied by professional musicians.

The event, attended by local community leaders and poetry enthusiasts alike also included recitals from local and international poets; Abdul Karim Shakoor, Jenny Roche, Daalat Ali, Samir Chatterjee, Yvonne from Dynamic Ladies and a performance by Multicultural Arts and Media Centres’  own ‘Young Poets’.

Inspector Mir who attended the event said: “With any event that brings communities together we find we have a diverse and better understanding of cultures.”

MAMC’s ‘World of Poetry’ was performed by Councillor Daalat Ali who "thoroughly enjoyed" the performances and praised its organiser Mohammed Sarwar.

The cultural event was hosted as part of the Rochdale Literature & Arts Festival which concluded on Sunday.

Mr Sarwar, CEO, said: "This was a good opportunity to join up with the Festival and promote new talent."
