Anniversary appeal for murder of David Lees

Date published: 28 October 2013

Detectives appeal to public to come forward with truth about the murder of
David Lees from Middleton.

Seven years after a man was run down by a car and killed, detectives are appealing for information that could lead to his killer being brought to justice.

David was deliberately hit by a car outside a petrol station on Middleton Road in Prestwich in the early hours of Saturday 28 October 2006. He was just 23-years-old.

Detectives are reviewing the evidence and are appealing for further information from the public.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Daniels from the Major Incident Team said: "No one has ever been convicted of murdering David but each year we are getting closer to finding the truth about what happened that October night in 2006.

"Cases like this are never closed and we remain absolutely determined to catch the person responsible for David's death. His family have campaigned tirelessly for the truth and we owe it to them to get justice for their son.

"Put simply, there are people out there who know what happened and I would beg that on this tragic anniversary date, they listen to their conscience and do the right thing. It is not right that someone responsible for murder has walked the streets free for seven years while David's family are living a life sentence without their beloved son."

The offer of a £50,000 reward remains for anyone who can provide police with the information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

David's mother, Ann, said: "Words can't describe the loss of David. He's missed so much, with the passing of every day.

"Today, David should be with us and still have his whole life to look forward to but this future was brutally ripped away from him by his murderer seven years ago.

"Our hope is that someone can do the right thing and come forward to the police so that we can finally get justice for our son."

David died after he was deliberately hit by a car on Middleton Road, Prestwich, outside a petrol station.

David had been out with friends when they became involved in a disturbance with a group of Asian men believed to be from the Manchester area.

A man wearing a hooded top was seen getting into a silver Vauxhall Vectra, registration number T313 NCR. The car sped up to about 60 to 70mph before it drove directly at David who was standing in the middle of the road.

Following the incident, the car was driven to the gates at Heaton Park on Middleton Road where the driver met with friends in other cars before heading to south Manchester.

Anyone with any information about the murder is asked to contact the Incident Room on 0161 856 3303 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
