Hailstones leave family battered and bruised
Date published: 30 October 2013
Hailstones wrapped in a mass of solid ice left a family walking around Cowm Park Reservoir battered and bruised last Friday (25 October).
Suzannah Waite, her husband, and their eight-year-old daughter were walking round the reservoir when the heavens opened and the 'freak of nature' hailstones came pounding down.
Suzannah said: "It was so fierce that we were left battered and bruised. My hubby has a lump on his head. We ran for cover and I have to say I was screaming for help.
"Cars were dented and sadly some livestock killed."
Similar hailstones were reported to have fallen in Littleborough on Saturday 26 October.
