Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival: M6 Act Now!

Date published: 27 October 2013

M6 Theatre performed two news plays, Glee and Glum for older teenagers and Invisible for 8-11 year olds at the Rochdale and Literature Ideas Festival today (Sunday 27 October).

Matt Wardle from M6 Theatre Group said: "We decided on doing the rehearsed readings today because we have only been back in term time for about four weeks and because it is not a traditional theatre space, rehearsed readings seemed right."

The group was split into two age groups with the 12-14 year age group performance based on family issues, running away and school issues.

The 15-18 age group performed Glee and Glum, a play that was written by the theatre group two years ago.

Matt added: "Some of the people performing today were part of the original play and some were new to the play."

Held in the children's library at Rochdale Central Libray, the theatre group's performance was watched by an audience of proud parents and festival visitors.

M6 Act Now! is funded by Link4Life, the Big Lottery Fund and AGMA. The group is also recognised as one of the country's leading theatre companies.

When asked about being involved with the festival, Matt said: "We have quiet a high profile in Rochdale so it seemed like a good idea to show off the work and to try and egnage with some people who wouldn't necessarily know about us or get involved."

After the perfromances, some members of the group held a drama workshop.
