Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival: Cartwheel Arts

Writing group Cartwheel Arts held a performance of their poetry entitled, Elemental this afternoon (Saturday 26 October) as part of the Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival.

Many had never performed poetry on stage before. The themes of their work being earth, fire, water and air, all following the elements theme.

As well as poems, the group read prose and pieces of creative writing.

Elemental is the final stage of a project undertaken by Cartwheel Arts which has included projects about each of the elements. The performance today was the last day of the Elemental project.

Writers Anjum Malik, Shamshad Khan, MC Visceral and Segun Lee-French helped complete the project and the performances were watched by a packed audience. 

Cartwheel Arts is an arts project based in Heywood. The group will be celebrating thirty years of hard work next year.

Today’s performance will form part of the groups’ next project, 'Tell Us Another One' which is a creative writing project.
