Wardle Academy’s Students take learning out of the classroom

Date published: 25 October 2013

On Wednesday 23 October, Wardle Academy took part in its first Deep Learning Day as an Academy.

Deep Learning is an approach that involves teaching wider world skills and techniques to support future learning and employment.

Wardle Academy promotes ‘deeper’ approaches to learning to help pupils to compete in the ever changing economic world and adapt to the needs of future employers.

All pupils across both Key Stage 3 and 4 had a suspended timetable, during which time a range of alternative and creative learning experiences were delivered to our pupils.

All the year groups were involved in different activities.

Year 7 pupils worked on their pledges as part of Foundation Learning. Their activities involved team building exercises and outdoor activities including the earth ball, climbing wall and archery.

Year 8 pupils had a theme of global awareness and their day including trying French food and watching films in a foreign language.

Year 9 pupils took part in anti-bullying workshops and Commando Joe’s came in to run some team building activities with the students.

Year 10 had an ethics day which involved Amnesty International events. They looked at song writing, campaigning and photography.

Year 11’s day was largely focused on their future careers. They visited a Future First Conference at Rochdale Town Hall and also benefitted from Mathematics and English booster sessions.
