We are delighted that 86 youngsters will be participating in our half term holiday club programme! I am sure that everybody will have a great time and thank you to the staff for supporting the holiday club programme.

Future First exhibitions

Over 50 youngsters from key stages 4 and 5 took part in the Future First exhibitions at which they had the opportunity to find out information of some possible career choice options for the future. The feedback I have received has been very positive. Well done to everybody.

Key Stage 5 Name of Intern: Maddiya

1st Rotation Placement: Outpatients Department

Job role: To work within the outpatients department undertaking various duties including collection of patients and their notes from reception and taking them to the waiting room. Letting them know when the doctor is ready to see them. Restocking in all areas of outpatients.

Maddiya’s comments: “I really like working at the outpatients department, the staff are really nice. I clear all the rooms when the patient has left the doctor but my best job is in the plaster room helping patients that need plaster of paris.”

Staff comments: “Maddiya is very pleasant and works hard. She greets patients, updates the stock cupboards and shows the patients to the correct rooms. Her independence is getting better and she now knows all the different areas that we work in within this department."

This half term, the 3rd year students on the Internship Programme have enjoyed their Friday Well Being days out with Lynda and James. They used public transport to visit Bury Town Centre, Heywood Social Lounge and Sports Centre, Oldham Gallery and Oldham Sports Centre. Last Friday they had a fabulous time at Sandbrook Park for their ‘treat’ day where they had games of Bowling and Laser Quest and enjoyed a great lunch at Frankie and Benny’s. Everyone said they thoroughly enjoyed their day and look forward to their next one at Christmas.

This week Student of the Week is Nathan Nathan is always good. He is loyal to his friends and will stick up for them. Nathan is consistently helpful and on Friday helped show Saj around the Pre Internship rooms at the Town Hall.

The Most Improved student of the week is Adeel. Adeel has been working extremely hard at college and on a recent visit out to Bridgewater Hall knew the answers to some very difficult music related questions.

Key Stage 3

Many pupils have kindly contributed to the ‘Rochdale Food Bank’, it is a collection to gather food for families who do not have any; the Food Bank is in heavy demand so please contribute. A big thank you goes to those pupils and families who have already helped.

Pupils in the Lilac room have made a Rice Krispie GIANT to go with their story “The Smartest Giant”. They have also made a pizza GIANT.

Year 7 Green made a Noah’s Ark as part of their R.E. lesson; they made a 3D textile display!

Key Stage 3 Enrichment group carved a pumpkin for their Halloween sensory session; they listened to scary music in their fantastic decorated Halloween themed room! But within a couple of days the heat in the classroom made the pumpkin collapse and turned into MUSH.

As part of ‘light & dark’ topic in Art 8&9 Orange are exploring dark sounds in music, dark (yucky!) tastes in food and dark colours. Mixing these ingredients together – literally, they are creating a piece called “Dark Moods”

Pupil’s comments:

Alicia went to Harry Potter world with her Dad and Pat; she flew on a broomstick and fell off it!! She said it was really good.

Ellie is going to see WICKED at The Palace Theatre in the holiday with her Mum and Grandma, she says she is looking forward to it.

The pupils in Year 7 Red went to Blackpool to experience the Seafront, Amusements, The Chips and above all the illuminations! They ate chips in a restaurant in Bispham. They took a walk along the big tableau light displays. The pupils were really well behaved and had a great time, they arrived back home at 10:30pm and nobody fell asleep on the way home.
