Clocks go back on Sunday

Date published: 25 October 2013

It’s that time of year again – the clocks go back on Sunday marking the end of British Summer Time for 2013.

The end of British Summer Time is at 2.00am on Sunday (27 October), clocks need to go back an hour to 1.00am to revert to Greenwich Mean Time.

The result will be that darkness arrives sooner in the evenings but we gain an extra hour of daylight in the mornings.

There has been much debate in parliament about whether the UK should be brought in line with central European time which could help with business but the argument is yet to be resolved.

Separate studies released show 70 per cent of the UK is opposed to turning the clocks back, and two-thirds of parents believe the time shift gives their children jet-lag symptoms for a week afterwards.

The annual turning back of the clocks is a source of annual controversy in the UK.

BST traditionally starts on the last Sunday in March and ends on the final Sunday in October.

Clocks will go forward again on Sunday 30 March.
