Council commits to make events safer
Date published: 25 October 2013
Rochdale Borough Council is endeavouring to make hosting an event in the borough "easier and simpler to achieve". The appointment of a new events manager has come as the council prioritises the importance of offering community-spirited events.
The events manager has been recruited to co-ordinate all statutory, regulatory, health and safety requirements that need to be in place to carry out a safe and well-managed event as well as support applicants through the process thereby easing the burden for organisers when applying for relevant road closures, traffic management or parking support, licensing and planning permissions, security assistance and public notices.
A user friendly application form is being developed that combines all relevant paperwork into a single document. The organisers should also benefit from a single point of contact. Improved guidance will instruct organisers from the outset on top tips for hosting a successful event and will be available on the Council website shortly.
Councillor Peter Williams, cabinet member for economic development and customer services (including events), said: “Supporting community events is a key priority for us. It’s important to provide plenty of opportunities for communities to get together, bond, celebrate with one another and share experiences.
“Of course we have a duty to make sure that everyone’s safety is maintained at all times without limiting people’s fun. We hope through simplifying the application process and providing better co-ordination support, communities in our borough can enjoy lots more happy times together.”
Anyone is considering hosting a public event within the next 12 months should email events@rochdale.gov.uk
The events manager will respond to advise on the application process.
