Have your say on council services

Date published: 10 January 2008

Local people are being given the chance to have their say on how accessible they think the council's services are.

An Equalities Listening Event is taking place later this month where residents will be able to comment on potential barriers to accessing services and securing employment, faced by men, women, younger people, older people, people with disabilities and those from black and ethnic minority communities.

It's part of Rochdale Borough Council's commitment to ensuring that everyone is treated fairly and to make sure that local people get a say in how council services are run.

Cabinet member for townships and corporate management, Councillor Keith Swift said: "It's really important that we hear what local people think of the services that we provide - especially when it comes to how fairly they think they are treated. This event will help us to identify what action we need to take to make sure that everything we do is as accessible as it possibly can be. We really value the views of council tax payers and I hope that many people will sign up to come along on the day and give us their opinions."

The Equalities Listening Event is taking place at Heywood Civic Centre on Tuesday 29 January 2008 between 10am and 2pm. There is no admission charge and a free buffet lunch will be provided. You may also be eligible for help with travel expenses.

Anyone wishing to attend must book a place by calling 01706 925164 or emailing khadija.bashir2@rochdale.gov.uk
