Ellen Gold plans fundraising for The Christie and HaTS

Date published: 24 October 2013

Ellen Gold hopes to raise as much money as possible for The Christie and HaTS charity throughout the upcoming months.

Ellen, who has been diagnosed with leukemia twice since 2009, wants to give back to the people who helped her when she was ill. She said: “I just want to give a little back after all of the help and support I have had.”

HaTS, (Hematology and transplant Support) is a charity which aims to provide and improve the support and care provided to patients and families of the Hematology and Transplant Unit at The Christie.

“HaTS help people on the ward and can help families as well,” said Ellen.

The Christie NHS Foundation Trust is located in Withington Manchester and is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe.

The Christie is currently undergoing building work to a new young oncology unit and haematology and transplant unit which is set to be opened in spring 2014. The development will house state of the art facilities and will significantly help to provide improved cancer treatment.

To raise the money, Ellen is organising a number of events including raffles, tombola’s, cake sales and tea parties. With help from her sister and niece, Ellen hopes to hold an afternoon tea party in Littleborough as one of her events.

Ellen, General Manager for Proofings Coated Fabrics Ltd in Littleborough, has also received overwhelming support from work colleagues and customers with her fundraising efforts.

She said: “People have been sending me cheques for the Christie and people have been donating bottles of wine for the raffles. The support has been more than I could have imagined.”

Ellen hopes to raise more than £500 but would be happy with whatever amount she can raise. The total raised by 16 December will then be taken directly to The Christie.

“I’m starting to feel better now so it’s about raising awareness and raising as much money as possible,” said Ellen.
