Community event held to celebrate Eid

Date published: 21 October 2013

Spotland Girls Group in collaboration with Rochdale Youth Service hosted a Chaand Raath Event on Monday 14 October at Spotland Community Centre. The event was held during the run up to Eid-Al-Adham, the festival of sacrifice.

Spotland Girls Group organised the enjoyable event to show off their community spirit.

The event was attended by over 100 residents who enjoyed the many stalls on offer. The stalls included hair and beauty, face painting, henna painting, food, toys, clothes and jewellery.

Entertainment was also provided by Spiderman throughout the night.

Asma Ali, age 19, who organised the henna painting stall said: “Being a part of these events is a blessing as it is rewarding to see all faiths come together and reach a better understanding about Eid festivities.”

A Spokesperson for Spotland Girls Group added: “It is satisfying to see such a brilliant turnout, especially when the aim of Spotland Girls Group is to promote togetherness and community spirit which is a big part of Eid.”

The local elected members also agreed that more events such as these should be organised to promote cohesion and diversity

Spotland Girls Group now hopes to hold events in the run up to the Christmas festivities.

Spotland Girls Group meets every Thursday evening 6 – 9pm at Spotland Community Centre for girls aged 13 – 19.
