Rochdale Environmental Action Group grows bigger with local support
Members of Rochdale Environmental Action Group (REAG) were joined by residents for a clean up of Rochdale on Saturday 19 October.
- Team A cleaned Boundary Street, King Street East and King Street South.
- Team B cleaned the Castlemere and Mere Street.
- Team C cleaned Milkstone Road, Ann Street, Henry Street, Sussex Street, Essex Street and Suffolk Street.
Whilst on the clean up, members of each team spoke to local businesses and residents in the area in hopes of raising awareness of the importance of improving the environment.
Ghulam Rasul Shahzad OBE and secretary for REAG said: “The group is working hard and would like to see all residents, businesses, organisations and households take the responsibility of cleaning the areas around their houses and businesses. This will make a real difference.”
As well as the clean up, members of REAG went around the area to identify places used for flytipping. Whilst doing this the group found sofas, old furniture and other items. These will now be reported to Rochdale Council Environment Management and those responsible for the Milkstone & Deeplish area.
“REAG would like to see Rochdale a cleaner, safer and flowery town in which everyone feels proud. For this everyone living, working, running business and visiting Rochdale should change their attitude about the area with commitment to improve its environment. REAG hopes that everyone will support them,” added Ghulam.
With the help of increasing numbers of people, the group hopes to expand their cleaning activities to other areas in the near future.
