Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival preview: Langley Library

Date published: 20 October 2013

Langley Library in Middleton held a preview event for the Rochdale Literature and Ideas festival yesterday (Saturday 19 October).

The event was the final of four preview events aimed to show people what the upcoming festival will be about.

Vicky Lomax, Arts Festival Director said: "We have really attracted a variety of age ranges and have really reached out to a broad spectrum of children."

The event was based on the theme of fire and included performances from Langley Writers and Mind authors.

Robin Parker, from Langley Writers, said: "Because it is a literature and ideas festival it seemed obvious for us to be involved."

Langley writers performed two sketches at the event, one entitled Cancer Chancer and a comedy sketch.

"We are absolutely looking forward to the festival," added Robin.

Other performers at the event included Langley Theatre Workshop and Go Takio! Drumming. Local schools also got involved; Parkfield Primary School took part in My Favourite Books with Cat Jessop.

"That part was fantastic,” added Vicky. "It was really busy and everyone enjoyed it. It was brilliant."

The Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival takes place next weekend (Friday 25 October - Sunday 27 October) and will include a variety of events for families and young children.

Vicky added: "Hopefully the success of these events is a prelude of what is to come next weekend."
