Improved cycling provision in town centre

Date published: 19 October 2013

Though parking spaces will be reduced in the town centre with the demolition of the old bus station, provision for cyclists is being improved with a modern ‘cycle hub’ where cyclists will be able to park their bikes under full cover with CCTV cameras and swipe card entry in the process of being created in the town centre.

A council spokesman said: “There are currently around 200km of cycle routes and paths running across the borough, with work recently completed on new routes alongside the Metrolink. We don’t have plans for more at present but we are always happy to look at suggested routes.

"In addition, shops and businesses in the borough are welcome to contact the council if they are interested in introducing bike rails near their buildings. We can then assess the location and may even also be able to help with applications for grant funding for the rails.”
