Superhero illustrator to draw attention at local library

Date published: 18 October 2013

Cartoon fans can get an insider’s view of the art of Spiderman, the Hulk and X-men this month - when a former Marvel Comic illustrator, Tim Quinn, drops into Darnhill Library, Heywood to share some of his drawing secrets.

The ‘mighty’ Tim Quinn is a legend from the world of comic books who, as well as illustrating some of Marvel Comic’s superheroes, has also worked on British comic classics including The Beano, The Dandy and Whizzer and Chips.

The workshop, which is open to children and adults aged 11 years plus, will include figure drawing, storytelling in pictures, comic book history and character and story creation. Paper and pencils will be provided.

Tim said: "I grew up with comics and was lucky enough to work in the industry for more than 30 years alongside some of the best illustrators in the business. I still think there is a place for comics. It's a great way to encourage literacy and instil a love of reading"

The workshop has been organised as part of the Try Reading scheme which is celebrating the sporting event of the year - the Rugby League World Cup 2013. The scheme aims to encourage more people to read more and to have a go at writing and drama.

The Tim Quinn Cartoon Workshop starts at 11am on Thursday 31 October at Darnhill Library, Argyle Parade, Heywood.

Places are limited so booking is essential either at the library or via email to: darnhill.library@rochdale.gov.uk
