Restructuring to take place in adult care services

Restructuring is set to take place within the adult care service of Rochdale Council affecting eight members of staff with one staff member facing possible redundancy.

The learning disability service and older people service which is part of the adult care category of Rochdale Council will be affected.

It is understood that these restructuring process are part of an ongoing drive to create a more efficient adult service.

Sheila Downey, Director of Adult Care at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “As part of the ongoing drive to create a more efficient adult care service, a restructure is currently taking place in the learning disability/older people service.

This is one of a number of restructures which have enabled the service to make considerable savings over the past three years. It will affect eight members of staff, both frontline and managerial and may result in one redundancy, although every effort will be made to redeploy the individual affected. It is expected to result in £62,000 worth of savings for the council.”

This news comes at a time when Rochdale Council has plans to substantially increase the pay of council executives.

Council Chief Executive Jim Taylor is set to receive a pay rise of £40,000 taking his salary to £170,000 per annum.

Mark Widdup, Director of Economy & Environment will also receive a pay rise increasing his salary to £101,062. Pauline Kane, Director of Finance will see her salary increased to £87,929, Linda Fisher, Deputy Chief Executive will see her salary increase to £91,087 and Sheila Downey will see her salary increase to £108,987.

It is currently unclear when these redundancies will take place but it is understood that staff have been told of the plans.
