Competition to find young writer

Date published: 26 September 2013

M6 Theatre Company has launched a new writing competition to find one original monologue (approx 8 – 10 minutes long) from a North West based writer aged 26 or under using ‘Act Now’ as a theme.

The monologue should be interesting and relevant to teenagers, it must work dramatically and it should act as a stimulus for drama/discussion workshops with young people.

The winner will receive £250 and the monologue will be published by Playdead Press Ltd in an anthology of work previously performed professionally by M6 Theatre Company.

The monologue will also be performed as part of Celebrate! M6’s Youth Arts Festival in April 2014. The writer will be mentored by award-winning playwright Billy Cowan.

Writers can only submit one script. It must be a word document formatted with a 12 point font and double spaced. It should be accompanied by a completed cover sheet. Your name should not appear anywhere on the script itself as the competition will be judged anonymously. A panel of industry professionals and young people will select the winning entry.

  • Closing date for submissions Friday 15 November 2013
  • Short-list announced Monday 16 December 2013
  • Winner announced Monday 20 January 2014
