Traffic lights at Sudden Junction close to switch-on

Date published: 09 April 2008

The new traffic lights at the Sudden Junction, near Tesco, will be switched on shortly. The road will no longer be subject to any closures and will be fully operational once the lights have an electricity supply and all road signs and bollards have been put up.

In the meantime the small roundabout at the junction will continue to operate. The section of Manchester Road between the two roundabouts is reduced to one lane westbound at all times.

In addition, a temporary footpath diversion has been set up while the retaining wall is being reconstructed and for the completion of the bus lane. The existing bus stop by the Windmill pub will be relocated to its new position opposite Tesco.

Off peak lane closures may be necessary on both sides of Edinburgh Way, while the finishing touches to the road are made. The bad weather recently has caused this work to be delayed.

Some traffic management is ongoing on the link road (Cotton Lane) between Manchester Old Road and Manchester Road. The footpath closure remains in place and the width of the carriageway is currently reduced. Once the traffic signals at the new junction are switched on, this link road will be permanently altered to operate on a one way system, outbound only.

A temporary footpath diversion has been set up on Bolton Road to allow for the re-alignment of the bus layby. The existing bus stop has been closed during this work. Passengers are advised to use the temporary bus stop which has been set up approximately 75m west (towards Heywood).

A lane closure is also necessary on Silk Street to allow for the reconstruction of the footpaths.
