Rochdale runner to go the extra mile and help end cruelty to children

Date published: 08 April 2008

A Rochdale woman will run in the London Marathon 2008, this Sunday 13 April, to raise funds for the NSPCC.

Julie Blomley will join four colleagues from Matalan in the hope of raising £250,000 for the NSPCC’s Safe Place Appeal in Liverpool.

Julie runs in competitions regularly but has yet to face a test as grueling as the London Marathon. She said: “I am really excited about this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The London Marathon is a really tough challenge and we know that we will be tested to our physical and mental limits. But it is particularly rewarding to know that by taking part we are helping to raise vital funds for the NSPCC.”

NSPCC corporate fundraising manager, Lizzie Pickup said: “All the money raised by the team will make a huge difference to the lives of abused and vulnerable children. It will help support the NSPCC’s 180 vital services for children and young people. Without the generosity of companies like Matalan and the support of the public our work to bring an end to child cruelty would simply not be possible.”
