Wardle High School converted to Academy status

Date published: 06 September 2013

On the 1 September Wardle High School converted to Wardle Academy. Academy status allows the school to have more freedom and flexibility. It allows the school to have 8% additional income, as no income is top sliced, to spend on facilities for the pupils.

Headmaster, Dr Graham Wright said: "Converting to an academy releases more money for our school allowing us to invest more money in the classroom where it matters. Being an academy gives us more flexibility with our curriculum and gives us more independence to pick the best of what is available. Despite changing to an academy, we aim to still maintain many of the strong links we already have with local providers including sections of the local authority."

Converting to an academy comes at a time when there are many exciting things happening at Wardle. The school has just received its best exam results with an 8% increase against a picture of national decline. The school will also be benefitting from a new build due for commencement in December 2013.
