Entwisle Road residents praise United Utilities

Date published: 15 August 2013

Residents affected by flooding on Entwisle Road have praised United Utilities for its efforts in fixing the problems they have faced since flooding occurred in the area on Tuesday 13 August.

Residents who can’t stay in their homes have been sent to hotels within Rochdale and have been helped with travel and food.

Mohammed Hanif who chose to stay in his home said: “There is only me and another family staying on the street. We were all offered help but I wanted to stay.”

“The floors have been damaged, the carpets and the floorboards are all gone and there is damage in the cellar” he said.

Rochdale Council has worked with United Utilities, National Grid and emergency services to reassure residents about the current situation.

Mohammed added: “There has been plenty of help. I can’t complain at all. It’s not their fault but they are really helping.”

Mohammed has insurance to cover the cost of damage and repairs but spoke of how much further United Utilities is going to help. “They have offered to pay for cleaning of things which is great” he said.

It is understood that flooding occurred after a water pipe burst.

Entwisle Road is still closed whilst the clean up process continues.
