Help and support for residents affected by Entwisle Road flood

Date published: 15 August 2013

The residents affected by the flood on Entwisle Road are getting support from Rochdale Council, United Utilities and Link4Life.

The Council arranged a meeting with United Utilities, National Grid and the emergency services to "to provide reassurance, information, a situation update and listen to resident’s concerns."

United Utilities has said that they will continue to pay displaced resident’s accommodation, travel and evening meal costs.

Link4Life has offered the residents complimentary use of the Borough’s leisure facilities.

Linda Fisher, Rochdale Council Deputy Chief Executive, said: “Officers from Rochdale Council were called to the flooding at Entwisle Road. We immediately established a temporary holding area at Rochdale Leisure Centre where we provided tea, coffee and snacks for the affected residents. Officers from community and housing teams were on hand to assess people’s needs. Twenty people required re-housing in temporary accommodation.

"United Utilities loss adjusters have been on site and have been assessing individual properties. They will be looking to dry out the properties once the contents have been removed.

"We will continue to offer our support to the neighbourhood and we will do all that we can to provide help and assistance at this difficult time.

"Safety is our number one priority and we are working with our partners to ensure that residents can return to their homes as soon as is it is possible and we can re-open the road.”

Councillor Farooq Ahmed said: “I would like to thank the council, emergency services and utility companies for their speedy response to this incident. I would also like to thank residents for their patience and resilience.

"Councillor Sultan Ali and I are here to support you as much as we can, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
