Free cycle maintenance courses

Date published: 13 August 2013

Free cycle maintenance courses are taking place in Middleton soon for cyclists who want to learn how to keep their bike in tip-top condition.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is holding two cycle maintenance courses at Middleton’s Bowlee Park Sports Centre on Windermere Road, M24 5NQ.

The sessions – which are for adults over 16 years old – will take place from 5.30pm-7.30pm Wednesdays 21 and 28 August. The courses must be booked beforehand at http://betterbycycle.eventbrite.com or by phoning 0300 123 1675.

The 2-hour long sessions will help cyclists learn skills including how to keep their bikes clean, mend punctures and safely adjust brakes and gears for a smooth ride.

Cycling experts will lead the sessions and people are advised to bring their own bikes, although demonstration bikes can be made available on request.

The Middleton dates are just two of many other cycling courses taking place at venues across Greater Manchester, including ‘Learn to Ride’ courses for novice adult cyclists.

TfGM is aiming to make Greater Manchester the most cycle-friendly British region outside London.

Greater Manchester has just been awarded £20 million government funding – more than any other area – for cycling education and infrastructure as part of its major 12 year cycling strategy – ‘Velocity 2025’.
