Summer sizzler at Limefield Park

Date published: 13 August 2013

The weather may have dulled but Middleton's Limefield Park will be warming things up with a fun packed activity day for young people and families this Thursday (15 August).

The bucking bronco will be challenging teenagers to hold on tight while youngsters can enjoy face paints, a bouncy castle, football and a climbing wall. And gamers can hop abroad the youth bus to play on the xbox and playstation.

But it's not all fun and games. Positive Steps will be on hand to offer smart career advice and the Early Break drug treatment service will be talking about the help available locally for young people who are concerned about drugs or alcohol.

The perils of driving without proper care will be highlighted for those who fancy having a go on the driving simulator. Young people who climb aboard will feel like they're driving for real with a 3d video roadview to help them take their mock driving test. But this time a member of Rochdale council's casualty reduction team will be on hand to guide them through the potential pitfalls and dangers.

More top advice will be on hand in the form of the fire service who will pop down with their engine to talk about the importance of having working smoke alarms as well as other key safety messages for young people during the summer.

Councillor Donna Martin, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools and Families at Rochdale Borough Council, said: "We know that the summer holidays can be a long stretch and it can be hard for families and young people to find things to do. That's why our youth service have organised a huge range of activities to keep them occupied while also giving them the tools to help them make the most of their future."

The Limefield Park event, which is funded by the Middleton township, takes place between 2pm-7pm. Similar events are also taking place at Broadfield Park on Thursday 22 August between 1pm-4pm and at Hare Hill Park in Littleborough on Thursday 29 August, also between 1pm-4pm.
