The Heritage Open Days 2013 weekend has a programme of events scheduled for Rochdale.

The weekend, which runs from Thursday 12 September until Sunday 15 September, is a free event with activities taking place all around the North West.

The aim is to open up the history of the North West for all to explore.

A selection of events will be taking place in the Rochdale area. Some of these include:

Rochdale’s Regal Moon pub was once the Regal cinema in the 1930s. The pub's ground floor has been refurbished to reflect the cinema's style and the upper circle is now no longer in use. For Heritage Open Days, tours of the circle will show the original decor and bring back memories to local cinema goers. Tours will last 30 minutes.

Rochdale’s Pioneers Museum is open for tours for a peek into the history of 31 Toad Lane, the Rochdale Pioneers Museum, in its journey from a woolen warehouse to the world famous birthplace of the co-operative movement which attracts visitors from all over the world.

The Parish Church of St Luke, Heywood will be holding guided tours around its impressive Victorian Gothic building showing off its stained glass, Reredos, pulpit and war memorial. There will be chances to ring the Chapel Bell, badge making, and brass rubbing.

Middleton Parish Church, St Leonard’s invites you explore the oldest church in the area. Dating from the 1100s with Norman arches incorporated in the building, the church features the curious wooden topped belfry, 16th and 17th monumental brasses and Battle of Flodden window.

The Old Grammar School, Middleton was a free school of Queen Elizabeth 1, founded in 1572, and beautifully restored Tudor building. There will be an opportunity to sample 'Nod to Nowell' specially brewed beer.
