Sudden junction update

Date published: 01 April 2008

The junction is continuing to operate as a small roundabout until the traffic signals are switched on in a few weeks time. The signals will become operational once the electricity supply has been provided, and all the traffic signs and bollards have been put up. No closures will be necessary during the commissioning of the traffic signals.

The section of Manchester Road between the two roundabouts is reduced to one lane westbound at all times, and one lane eastbound during off peak periods. This is to facilitate the reconstruction of the central reserve. In addition, a temporary footpath diversion is being set up while the retaining wall is being reconstructed. The existing bus stop by the Windmill pub will be relocated to its new position opposite Tesco.

Off peak lane closures may be necessary on both sides of Edinburgh Way, to lay the anti-skid finishing on the approaches to the new crossing. This work has unfortunately been delayed due to bad weather conditions.

Some traffic management is ongoing on the link road between Manchester Old Road and Manchester Road. The footpath closure also remains in place.

A temporary footpath diversion is being set up on Bolton Road to allow for the re-alignment of the bus layby. The existing bus stop has been closed during this work - you are advised to use the temporary bus stop which has been set up approximately 75m west (towards Heywood).

Some lane closures and temporary footpath diversions are necessary on Silk Street to allow for the reconstruction of the footpaths.
