Year 6 X Factor

Date published: 09 July 2013

Matthew Moss held its own Key Stage 2 X Factor competition this week. The winning act from Castleton Primary School was "Little Little Mix" who have won a recording session in the Matthew Moss recording studio.

Four of our local primary schools chose two acts each to represent them in the X factor final. The schools taking part were Marland Hill, Brimrod, Castleton and St Edwards. The competition, organised by Mrs Tracey Martin, lasted the full day.

Mrs Martin said: ''The event was really great to be part of, I think we can make this an annual event from now on. The level of enthusiasm from the performers was unbelievable.''

In the morning the students were given sound checks and tips on improving their performing skills. In the afternoon Mr Tony Salter kept the audience of Year 6 pupils entertained by his fast flowing and witty banter.

Our special guest judge was Mr William Sheerin, who is the Councillor for Castleton. Mr Sheerin has lots of links with local amateur dramatic societies and many years of experience in watching people perform on stage.

Mr Sheerin said: ''It was a wonderful event, brilliantly organised and a pleasure to be part of. The children really enjoyed themselves and the performers from each school were fantastic.''

Mr Roy Down who helped with the judging said: ''It was a shame we could only pick one winner, they were all so good.''
