New curate at St Andrew's, Dearnley

Date published: 26 June 2013

A new curate, Mike Howarth, will be joining St Andrew's, Dearnley soon for a period of three years.

He spent his entire career with ICI and its legacy companies, working in research and development, project management and business development.

He is married to Mag with three grown-up children and three grandchildren.

They were married at Christ Church, Chadderton and later moved to Littleborough, joining Holy Trinity where, for many years, Mike led the Briercliffe House healing community.

Friends, the late Rev Ian Thompson, the Rev John McGrath and the Rev Sharon Jones all had a part to play in Mike's decision to first train as a Reader and later to go through the process of selection for ordination.

In a message to worshippers at St Andrew's, he said: "I believe the Christian life is a journey in which we should expect challenge and change.

"I look forward to sharing the journey with you at St Andrew's over the next few years.

"I expect you to teach and challenge me and perhaps with God's grace I can bring the odd insight and encouragement for your journeys."
