Wardle High School students take on Lakeside

Date published: 22 May 2013

Musicians from Wardle High School visited Lakeside on the 10 May for an activity packed weekend. The Lakeside YMCA National Centre is based at Newby Bridge, Cumbria and is one of the largest outdoor activity facilities in the country.

Over 30 Year 7 and 8 students from different bands including the musical groups visited the centre as part of an annual trip.

The students were involved in a range of activities such as canoeing, orienteering, climbing and abseiling. They also took part in a very muddy obstacle course but they were soon able to clean themselves up by running through the lake!

The annual trip is a chance for the musicians, who work hard representing the school in competitions throughout the year, to have some fun and team-build. The trip is focused on Year 7 and 8 pupils, with the musicians in the other years being given the chance to go abroad later in the year. This year the pupils are being offered the opportunity to go to Spain.

As well as being a strong performing academic school Wardle High School has a strong tradition in the performing arts, but particularly in brass band music. The school has several groups and bands and they also support local primary schools.
