IT student shuns university for top job

Date published: 01 May 2013

17-year-old Kieron Venison has turned his back on university and landed himself a great job at fast growing Manchester based IT company UKFast.

Kieron, who is on target to achieve a distinction in his Level 3 Extended Diploma in ICT, is delighted at securing the position at the leading green internet hosting company based in Trafford. He will begin his induction and training with the company next month and will join full time to work in data management and server engineering repair once he’s finished his course in July (after allowing himself a little holiday).

He had originally planned to go to university to continue his education but was put off by the huge expense.

Kieron, a student at Hopwood Hall College, said: “The staff are always so helpful and without them I wouldn’t have the knowledge I have now. I’ve always liked computers and knew I wanted to end up working in IT. I travel from Oldham to Middleton every day because the ICT course at Hopwood has got such a great reputation. It’s definitely been worth all that travelling.”

Namaan Mohammed, Hopwood Hall College IT Programme Manager, is very proud of Kieron and commented: “He is a dedicated student who always shows a lot of initiative. He has a natural talent for IT and UKFast are very lucky to have him.”
