Crucial Crew Littleborough

Date published: 26 March 2008

The 'Crucial Crew' event that took place in Littleborough on Tuesday 25 March was a real success - over fifty older people turned up.

The organisers included RMBC Trading Standards and the GMP Watch Scheme.

Andy Glover, Consumer Protection and Registration Services Manager at RMBC Trading Standards, said previous Crucial Crew events for older people have well-attended by local residents and support agencies and the Littleborough event was no different. A spokesman said: "The local residents I spoke to seemed to thoroughly enjoy the informative and entertaining sessions which will help to keep them safe in their own homes."

Nicola Oldham, GMP Watch Scheme Administrator, said: "The aim of Crucial Crew was to make older people more aware of services available to them and to help them feel safer in their own homes. The feedback I received from the attendees is that they enjoyed the event and that they went away with information and details of services that they will be using once they return home. It was a real success."

Those attending concurred:

Warren Sheridan said: "The event was very informative and I have learnt an awful lot from all of the different people who spoke. I didn't know about the cross border bus passes from GMPTE or the free fire checks that the Fire Service carry out. I really enjoyed it."

Doreen Morton said: "The event worked very well. It gave us the opportunity to ask questions and to find out what was available in the area. I came with the over 50's sports and social club in Littleborough and we all enjoyed the day.

Freda Swain said: "I really enjoyed the day, especially the chair exercises and the talk from the Fire Service."

Councillor Jean Ashworth said: "For once I was one of the youngest members of the audience (being under 60). I found it a really interesting and informative day.
