Siddal Moor GCSE Geography Field Visit

Date published: 23 April 2013

46 Siddal Moor Year 10s and 5 staff visited Grasmere on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 April as part of their GCSE Controlled Assessment. Despite the windy conditions the group ventured up towards Easedale Tarn for lunch before collecting their fieldwork data on the return journey. The highlight of the fieldwork was the dunking of Mr Hardicre and Mr McKeown into the river.

After struggling against the conditions the group collected a set of data and sketches and returned for a hot shower, good grub and more work! A good night's sleep (for some) followed and all were up bright and breezy at 7am the next morning.

Unfortunately the sun had forgotten to get up and it was a day most suited to ducks. A land use survey and questionnaires in Grasmere was interspersed with cakes and gingerbread. The return journey saw a lot of sleeping and a stop off for Burger King at Lancaster Services.

The final awards were given out after great deliberation by staff including the 'Michael Phelps Olympic Swimming Award' and the 'Mountaineer of the Week Award'.

A great time was had by all and the students are well prepared to achieve superb GCSE results in the summer of 2014, with the department predicting 80% A*-C.
