Woman taken to hospital after cooking fire

Date published: 10 April 2013

An elderly woman was hospitalised with smoke inhalation after a slow cooker set alight in her Rochdale home.

Crews from Rochdale were called to the property on Ford Gardens, Bamford, at 6.15pm.

The fire was out on arrival but the 90-year-old resident had suffered smoke inhalation.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Trauma Technician gave the woman oxygen before she was taken to Fairfield General Hospital.

Chair of Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Authority, Cllr David Acton, said: “We wish this woman a speedy recovery.

“You should always take care when cooking and never leave cooking unattended – a fire can start in moments with terrible consequences.”
