Elaine Hibbert and pupils from Hollin Primary School in Middleton celebrate their outstanding Ofsted report
A former pupil has transformed her old school from one “ruled by children” to an “outstanding” primary.
Head Teacher Mrs Elaine Hibberts says she started at the old Hollin Primary School in Middleton, when the school was 3 years old, and became Head of the new building when it was also 3 years old. Mrs Hibbert said: “It was meant to be”.
The story of the schools success has been picked up by The Times and the BBC with filming taking place in the school this week (4 September).
Hollin Primary School in Middleton had been rated as outstanding in all areas by Ofsted, just two years after coming out of special measures.
The dramatic turnaround has seen the school achieve the highest rating in achievement of pupils; quality of teaching; behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.
Mrs Hibbert has a successful track record of helping to turn round failing schools and took up her position in 2009, a year after it had been placed in special measures.
She said: “Our outstanding Ofsted report is the result of much hard work by staff and pupils and we must not underestimate the support that our parents have given, they have played their part in our journey to the top.
“As a former pupil I was determined that the school should be at the centre of the community and we’ve made great strides in this direction.
“The route out of poverty is education. We spot struggling children and help them. We are really proud, our children are incredible!”
Hollin Primary School will feature on The ONE show on Monday 10 September at 7.00pm.
