Masked men threatened customers and staff at a pub in Littleborough

Date published: 01 August 2012

At about 11.40pm on Sunday 29 July 2012 employees were preparing to close the Beach pub on Lake Bank when three masked men walked into the pub.

One of the men shouted at customers and staff to get on the floor. They went behind the bar, into the kitchen and tried to go upstairs into the private accommodation.

Two employees tried to stop them, but one of them was punched twice in the head.

One of the men walked over to a group of customers and demanded they hand over their phones.

He stole an iphone and the three men ran out of the pub.

The offenders were all wearing balaclavas and dark clothing.

Detective Constable Michael Berger from Rochdale CID, said: “The men responsible for this robbery were very determined criminals who went equipped with crowbars to intimidate their victims.

“They terrified customers who were enjoying a quiet drink and attacked a man trying to defend himself.

“Luckily no one was seriously injured, but the threat of violence means the victims are badly shaken up.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information about this robbery to come forward."

Anyone with any information is asked to call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 4637, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
