Garden party and barbecue at St Andrew's

Date published: 30 July 2012

Despite the inclement weather, a garden party and barbecue put on by Rev Sharon Jones, raised £430 for St Andrew's, the parish church of Dearnley and Smithy Bridge at Littleborough.

Party-goers had to dodge the showers early on and take refuge in the conservatory, but the sun came out later when everyone was able to enjoy the garden, ample fare on the barbie - and the bar!

Money raised will go to the church's Wider Welcome appeal which will fund improvements and extensions to community facilities in the parish room at the west end of the church, work on which will start soon.

Said Peter Shrigley, chairman of the Wider Welcome project team: "Everything is moving along nicely. We are making considerable progress thanks to events like the garden party which was a huge success despite the poor weather in the early part of the afternoon."

Other Wider Welcome fund-raisers on the calendar include a musical evening presented by the Wigan-based band 'Gifted', based on Songs from the Shows, on Saturday, September 29 and a questions-and-answers evening with BBC Radio Manchester's popular presenter Allan Beswick on Friday, October 26 from 8.00pm.
