Flood risk update

Heavy rain has left residents in the borough fearing flooding this, as flood warnings have been issued by the Environmental Agency.

Residents in Whitworth have been warned that the River Spodden may burst its banks by 3.00pm today, flooding nearby playing fields and homes.

Residents in Daniel Street have been given sandbags by the council in order to protect their homes.

    Location: Areas at risk include properties on Elm Street, The football ground, Daniel Street and some properties in the vicinity of Tong lane.

    River Roch at Littleborough

    Location: Areas at risk include those from Stubley Mill Road to Carriage Drive. Including properties in Church Street and adjacent roads, and in the vicinity of Todmorden Rd and South of the Railway line around East Street.  
  • Flood Alert - Flooding is possible. Be prepared.
    Upper River Irwell catchment with Oldham, Bolton, Rochdale, Haslingden, Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall.
    Location: The Upper Irwell catchment includes the Rivers Beal, Roch and Croal, Limey Water and their tributaries. Other locations which may be affected are around Farnworth, Whitefield, Little Lever, Radcliffe, Bury, Heywood, Whitworth and Bacup 

A spokesperson from Rochdale Council said: “Our highways team will be monitoring surface water and clearing drains if required.

"We are also closely monitoring local river levels and working with the Environment Agency and other partners to ensure that the necessary safeguards are in place. If residents have any urgent flooding issues please call our emergency line on 0845 121 2975 or the Environment Agency on 0845 988 1188.

“In terms of Rochdale town centre, we are monitoring the River Roch’s vulnerable points. The water is flowing quickly but is unobstructed and there is no immediate cause for concern.”
