Appeal launched after train guard sprayed with fire extinguisher
Date published: 12 June 2012
British Transport Police in Manchester have launched the hunt for two men who stole a fire extinguisher from a train and used it to spray a member of rail staff.
The incident happened shortly after 11.20pm on Saturday, 19 May, at Littleborough rail station.
As the 11.20pm Manchester Victoria to Leeds service pulled into the station a large group of people got off the train.
PC Matthew Morrision said: “As the group got off the train one of the men grabbed a fire extinguisher, walked towards the train guard and sprayed him with the contents.
“The man then dropped the extinguisher which was picked up by a second man who took it out of the station with him.
“Though no-one was seriously injured during the incident, it was clearly not pleasant for the member of staff and could have escalated.
“BTP and the train operating companies will not tolerate any aggression towards staff and I am calling on the public to help locate those responsible.”
Officers have also released CCTV images of two men they would like to speak to in connection wit the incident.
PC Morrison added: “If you have any information about the incident, or recognise the men, please get in touch.”
If you think you can help, please call BTP on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111. In all calls please quote background log B11/NWA 12/6/12.
