Cemetery extension at Dearnley
Date published: 11 May 2012
The cemetery in Arm Road, Dearnley has been extended to provide new burial space for another 30 years once the existing cemetery becomes full at the end of this year.
The council’s environmental management team extended onto council owned open space next to the eastern side of the cemetery and a new stone wall has been built around the new section, alongside improved footpaths, car parking and a selection of new trees
Derek Mack, cemeteries manager at Rochdale Council, said: “This extension will provide a peaceful place for new grave burials and the other work we have undertaken will make the cemetery a generally more pleasant environment.
“Residents can be assured that family graves in the current cemetery will continue to be reopened for burials in existing graves.”
A dedication ceremony to officially mark the extension of the cemetery will take place next Tuesday (15 May) at St Andrew’s Church in Arm Road at 12 noon.
